Manchester United has launched big offer to FC Porto’s striker

Manchester United has launched a €60 million plus variables bid for FC Porto striker Evanilson, according to multiple sources in Portugal.

The 22-year-old scored 21 goals in 46 games to help Porto win the league and cup double last season.

Despite his club’s success, the Brazilian was beaten by Darwin Nunez of Benfica, who has since joined Liverpool, in the scoring department.

However, at Porto, Evanilson had to share offensive responsibilities with Mehdi Taremi, who had 26 goals the previous season.

According to Record and O Jogo, United has already made a huge bid through superagent Jorge Mendes.

While the Dragons value Vitinha at €100 million, the source claims that if PSG’s deal to get him falls through, they would be willing to take €70 million.

“The blue and white leadership had agreed on Fábio Vieira and Vitinha’s sales, thus the positive balance in the 2021/22 financial year was already secured,” Record says.

“However, PSG are behind schedule in finishing Vitinha’s deal, and the latest word from France is that the Parisians want to join the race for Argentine Enzo Fernández, who is now a target for Benfica and whose price might be half that of Vitinha.

“If Vitinha stays and another sale is required before the end of the year, on June 30, Man United’s interest in Evanilson, whose contract FC Porto owns 80 percent of, makes the Brazilian negotiable.”

It’s an odd claim that’s riddled with ifs, buts, and maybes. However, the fact that it has been reported by multiple sources lends it some credibility.

According to Correio de Manh, the Red Devils have been pursuing the player for four months, based on Ralf Rangnick’s advice.

However, these same publications said that United was interested in Vitinha as well, so why wouldn’t United pursue him again if PSG dropped out?

Benfica utilized United’s brand to encourage Liverpool to pay top dollar for Darwin, and Porto used their reputation to persuade PSG to sign Vitinha.

While United are almost certainly looking for a striker, and while Evanilson is a good player at a good age, he did not exactly light up the world last season, and it seems unlikely that United would have opened with a massive bid like the one reported by Transfermarkt.com for a player worth only €22 million.
