Manchester United and Arsenal are expected to tussle over the acquisition of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to reports. The two Premier League are now battling for a top-four finish. Both clubs are interested in Tielemans and might face off in the transfer market.

Arsenal had been in pole position to sign the Belgian midfielder, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs (via Daily Star). Manchester United, on the other hand, has joined them in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

Tielemans joined Leicester City for £40.50 in 2019 from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, and has been a staple in Brendan Rodgers’ side ever since. He has 24 goals and 22 assists in 147 games for the Foxes, and many consider him to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.

With probable departures coming and a lack of depth in both squads, Arsenal and Manchester United are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Arsenal are looking for a midfielder to play alongside Thomas Partey, as Granit Xhaka does not have the ball-carrying profile that the Ghanaian requires. The future of Xhaka at the club is also in doubt. The Daily Mail claimed in January that he would be joining AS Roma in Serie A.

Mikel Arteta’s midfield options are restricted beyond these two players. Last summer, Arsenal signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht. The Belgian, on the other hand, has been unable to secure a position in the starting lineup.

Manchester United, on the other hand, has been in desperate need of a midfield revamp for some time. They’re looking for a defensive midfielder, and Declan Rice of West Ham United has been mentioned as a possible candidate.

Tielemans, on the other hand, would provide the Red Devils with an alternative to Fred and Scott McTominay. With Paul Pogba expected to leave at the conclusion of the season, the pair are likely to be the only central midfielders left at the club.

Tielemans’ Premier League experience, as well as his goal-scoring ability and enthusiasm, may be extremely useful to both teams. Next season, the Belgian would love to play for a team that will compete in the UEFA Champions League. He discussed his future with Het Laatste Nieuws, saying:

“Of course, like any other footballer, I want to play in the Champions League. Is it safe to say that I’m ready to play for a big European club? I’m ready to make the most of my professional life. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next summer or the summer after.”
The 24-year-contract old’s with Leicester City expires in a year, and it’s unclear where Tielemans will play next season.
