FC Barcelona key player out for 4 to 6 weeks with harmstring injury
Barcelona have been handed a major blow as star man Ansu Fati is set for another extended spell out on the sidelines.
The 18-year-old teenage sensation returned to action earlier this week after having recovered from a minor knee issue. Ansu went on to bag a goal on his comeback against Dynamo Kyiv and then was on target against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
However, disaster struck for Ansu Fati and Barcelona around half-time as the young Spanish attacker picked up a hamstring injury and was taken off during the break. The Catalans confirmed that the La Masia academy product had suffered some discomfort in his left hamstring but had not offered a timeline on his return.
However, sources have now informed Barca Universal that Ansu Fati could be sidelined for a period of four to six weeks. That would mean that the teenage prodigy will certainly miss new manager Xavi Hernandez’s first game in charge of the Blaugrana later this month against local rivals Espanyol.
Barcelona are then scheduled to play two tough games against Benfica and Villarreal, which will be followed by clashes against Real Betis and Bayern Munich. And, Ansu could potentially miss a few or all of these encounters, depending on his recovery.
Barca will be gutted by the development, considering that the Spanish international had only returned to action after almost a year out on the sidelines. Since coming back, Ansu Fati had been one of the Catalans’ better players, having scored four goals in eight games across all competitions.
His strike against Dynamo Kyiv was crucial to keeping the Blaugrana alive in the UEFA Champions League. However, another spell on the sidelines now beckons Ansu. Apart from him, Ousmane Dembele is also injured, while Eric Garcia and Nico Gonzalez also picked up knocks in the 3-3 draw against Celta Vigo.
