FC Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender
Lucy Bronze has joined FC Barcelona following her departure from Manchester City.
Following the expiration of her contract on June 30th, Bronze announced last month that she would be ending her second stint at the Academy Stadium.
The defender had been linked with a return to the NWSL with Angel City FC or the San Diego Wave, but she has instead chosen to join Spanish champions Barça on a two-year deal.
“I’m ecstatic to be a part of FC Barcelona, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. I’m eager to begin working with the group “she stated
“You can’t say no to Barça after a few of discussions.”
Bronze made 31 appearances for City in the WSL over the past two seasons, with injuries limiting her availability at times. She is presently training with the England team in preparation for Euro 2022, which will be held on home soil this summer.
Georgia Stanway joined Bayern Munich this summer, while Jill Scott and Caroline Weir left after their contracts expired.
City, on the other hand, have already begun signing replacements, with Leila Ouahabi arriving from Barcelona in the opposite direction. Atletico Madrid’s Deyna Castellanos and Laia Alexandri have also been signed.
