Dani Alves has officially announced his exit from Barcelona

Dani Alves, a senior defender, stated on Instagram that he will leave Barcelona when his contract ends at the end of the month.

The Blaugrana signed the 39-year-old right-back on a free transfer after his contract with Sao Paulo expired in November of last year. During his second tenure with Barça, Alves appeared 16 times, scoring one goal and setting up three others.

With his expertise, winning mentality, and positive attitude, the veteran player has given a lot of value to the team.

However, Alves’ contract with Barcelona expires on June 30, and the club has decided not to extend his stay beyond that date after much deliberation.

There have been discussions about extending his contract until December 2022 in order to help him prepare for the FIFA World Cup. Barcelona, however, decided against a new deal due to the club’s precarious financial circumstances and their pursuit of Cesar Azpilicueta.

According to reports earlier today, the club informed Alves of their choice, and now the veteran defender has confirmed that he will not be continuing at the club beyond his current deal

Alves took to Instagram to share a letter that reads in part, “Dear Culés. It’s now time for us to say our goodbyes.

“I’d want to express my gratitude to all of the staff for allowing me to return to Barça and wear this magnificent shirt once more; they have no idea how delighted I am!”

“I hope Barcelona doesn’t miss my anarchy and joy on a daily basis.” I sincerely hope that those who remain at Barça influence the course of this magnificent club’s history.”

Due to Alves’ departure, Barcelona is expected to recruit Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, while Sergino Dest may also stay at Camp Nou.
