Egyptian Referee Mohammed Abel Hussein has been appointed by CAF to officiate the first leg of the Confederation Cup playoffs between Ghana champions Hearts of Oak and Algerian side JS Saoura at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 28.

Hearts were eliminated from Caf Champions League after a 6-1 drubbing in the hands of Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco last month. They have, however, been offered another opportunity to right the wrongs as they host Souara next week.

Adel, who is 43-years-old, was recently in the news after his performance during Al Ahly’s 5-3 victory over Zamalek a fortnight ago.

He was criticised by Zamalek’s top hierarchy and supporters for deliberately aiding Ahly to win the derby.

However, Adel was later spotted of making an unfortunate statement on radio where he revealed that he felt very nervous about Zamalek players after Al-Ahly scored their third goal, and was keen to contain them despite the ease of displaying yellow and red cards in their faces as a result of the violations they committed.

Adel, who is a police officer and a member of the Egyptian National Police, became a FIFA referee in 2018. He officiated a lot of matches during the 2018–19 CAF Champions League.
