Bayern Munich has confirmed the sighing of Moroccan defender from Ajax
Noussair Mazraoui, a Moroccan international, has joined Bayern Munich from Ajax.
After his contract with Ajax expires in June, Mazraoui, 24, will join the Bundesliga winners on a free transfer.
According to ESPN, the right-back, who has a contract until 2026, might be the first part of a double signing from Ajax, with Bayern Munich also interested in midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Mazraoui will give Julian Nagelsmann another option at right-back, where he will fight with France international Benjamin Pavard for a starting berth.
Mazraoui is the first reinforcement to arrive at the club ahead of next season, with Niklas Sule left Bayern Munich for Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer.
Mazraoui came up through Ajax’s youth system, winning two Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups. In 2019, he was also a significant member of the club that advanced to the Champions League semifinals.
His departure from Ajax comes amid a summer revamp at the club, with manager Erik ten Hag joining Manchester United and a slew of big-name departures expected.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer signed a one-year contract extension on Monday, extending his stay at the club until 2024.
Since joining Bayern from Schalke in 2011, the 36-year-old goalkeeper has won 10 consecutive league titles and two Champions League trophies, among a slew of other domestic and European honors.
“Manuel is a pivotal character in FC Bayern’s history,” stated chief executive Oliver Kahn in a statement. “For years, [he] has been setting the global standard. Being consistently world class is a great accomplishment.”
Neuer, who has made almost 470 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, is the club’s second longest-serving player, following forward Thomas Muller, who recently extended his contract until 2024.
“We’ll have a really excellent team again,” Neuer added, “with whom we can contend for every title.” “I want to be the support and a significant part in our big goals as a goalkeeper, captain, and leader.”
“We want to continue our winning streak and fight for the German Cup and Champions League once more.”
