Barcelona’s star defender will miss the rest of the 2021-22 season after suffering a hamstring injury
After the Blaugrana’s 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano at home over the weekend, the full-back was forced to depart the game.
Due to a hamstring injury, Sergino Dest, a member of the United States national team, will miss the remainder of Barcelona’s 2021-22 season.
Dest was named to Xavi’s starting XI for Barca’s most recent La Liga encounter against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, but he got off to a poor start, allowing Alvaro Garcia too much space to open the scoring after only seven minutes.
After the 21-year-old was taken off at half-time, the Blaugrana lost their third consecutive home game, equaling a club record, but it has now been established that his removal was not a tactical move.
According to a statement released by the club, Dest suffered hamstring problems during Barca’s loss to Rayo.
“Tests conducted this morning have revealed that first-team player Sergino Dest has a hamstring injury in his right thigh,” the notification continues.
“It’s in short supply, and its availability will be determined by how it evolves.”
Barcelona has not given Dest a specific timetable for his recovery, but it is expected that he will not play for the squad again this season.
Xavi’s team will play Mallorca at Camp Nou on May 1st, followed by matches against Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Getafe, and Villarreal to finish the season.
Dest has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, but if Barcelona is to finish in the top four in La Liga, they may have to do without him.
