Barcelona have completed the signing of 25-year-old top Serie A’ midfielder
According to a report by SPORT, Barcelona have sealed the signing of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie on a free transfer. The player will join the club in the summer, and all formalities are complete at this stage.
Milan refused to extend his contract with Milan due to salary demands, and according to Fabrizio Romano, will earn €6.5 million net per season at Barça once the move goes through.
Kessie usually plays as the number 8 in Milan’s double pivot setup and has scored five goals across this season. While that is an impressive output, it has decreased a fair bit from last season when he touched 13 goals and four assists.
Xavi is a fan of the 25-year-old’s physical prowess, and even though he is not expected to become a starter immediately, he will be in the mix regularly.
There is already a lot of competition in midfield, and the manager wants to add more profiles to raise the bar for the team.
It is becoming apparent, though, that Riqui Puig probably does not have a place at Barcelona. The Spaniard is currently the fifth-choice central midfielder in a team that plays with two and could fall further down the pecking order next season.
He is, however, linked with an exit already and has sought help from team captain Gerard Pique to find him a new club.
Kessie is expected to be Barcelona’s second signing of the season. Andreas Christensen’s move seems as good as done, and Cesar Azpilicueta could follow suit as well if his contract is not automatically renewed for another season.
Barça are linked with several others players as well, including Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui. He has been offered a €5 million salary package if reports are to be believed, but the deal is still in process.
It is clear, though, that after all this, Joan Laporta and Xavi still have their eyes set on signing a ‘superstar’, with Erling Haaland their first-choice. Mohamed Salah, Robert Lewandowski, and Romelu Lukaku are the alternatives.
