Barcelona defender tests positive for COVID-19

Just hours before Barcelona’s players return to training after a brief Christmas break, Clement Lenglet has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Frenchman will, as a result, be unable to report for training on Tuesday afternoon and will miss Barcelona’s upcoming game against Real Mallorca.

The news was reported by ARA, but as of Monday evening there has been no statement issued by the club themselves.

Barcelona have done well so far this season with COVID-19 and have had very few cases of the virus at the club in 2021/22, with Sergi Roberto one of the standout exceptions.

It remains to be seen who will be available for the Mallorca game after training resumes on Tuesday, but it appears as though Xavi Hernandez will have close to a full group available with Lenglet thought to be the only new absentee.

Barcelona travel to the Balearic Islands to take on Mallorca at 20:00 local time on Sunday, January 2.
